Our April meeting was held in the Sydney Set Room at Souths Leagues Club. Our sponsor for this meeting was Tony Moroney catering who generously provide the room for free.

Our guest speaker was Peter Belinfante who spoke about preparing for the end of the financial year. Peter laid out the issues involved in setting up an appropriate taxation strategy and pointed out some of the dangers inherent in a too creative approach to accounting.

Copyright Warning

The Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) has written to the chamber advising of their national program to license businesses playing copyright music.

They maintain that, if your business plays music, radio or TV to either staff or customers, including music-on-hold, you may be liable under the Copyright Act.

We have a set of brochures from APRA which cover these situations. Also APRA has an Information Centre on (02) 9937-4597 which can provide additional information.

Newsletter Editor

There is an opening in the chamber's organisation for an enthusiastic person to become Newsletter Editor. The pay is bad, the hours are long, and, no-one ever supplies copy on time. However, for the right person, it can be a rewarding and fun experience.

Please contact the President, Geoff May, if you're masochistic enough to take on this task.

Chamber Internet Site

I have been experimenting with an Internet World Wide Web Site for the chamber. It's URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is:- http//www.nim.com.au/sscoc/

If you have World Wide Web access, please check it out and let me have your comments and suggestions.

FaxStream Service

The Chamber has enrolled in Telstra's FaxStream Service. We will be sending meeting notifications and press releases to our members through this service.

Therefore we need to know your fax numbers. If you don't get a fax from us via Faxstream in the near future, please contact Joan Weisz on 9310-5910 to ensure that we've got your fax number correct.

Newsletter Copy Deadline

If you have a subject that you wish to write about in this newsletter, please note that the deadline for copy is the 20th of each month.

Our aim is to get the newsletter to you in the week before the Monthly Meeting.
