You have been charged with Creating an Intranet.
You realise you have the following needs:-
We start be defining and clarifying some terms, then look at what's available and finally how to use and manage the systems we need.
We'll look also at some vendors' vision of the Internet and Intranets.
A tradesman coming to a job will select the appropriate tools to do that job. So must we when we approach the job of setting up an Intranet and/or providing data to the Internet.
A requirement, therefore, is to have a knowledge of all the tools available, and the expertise to select the ones that will do that job. Knowing what not to use is as important as knowing what tool to use.
So, coming to the job, we need to know lot about the job. This will require a knowledge of our organisation and its objectives as well.
